Nurse Practitioner led “Minor Ailments"  Clinic has changed

A number of allocated appointments are available on the day for the assessment of MINOR AILMENTS that are persisting or worsening "after an initial period of self-care."  These appointments can be booked by telephone or in person. When booking in the reception staff will need information relating to your symptoms and onset to ensure that the same day clinic is the most appropriate pathway.  These appointments do not replace emergency appointments which require GP assessment or a routine appointment for on-going chronic problems. Hence the reception staff will request a history of your problem to ensure you are signposted to the most appropriate service.

Given restrictions on prescribing medications available over the counter there is a range of self-help leaflets available at the surgery.  This supports research that shows in many cases people can manage their minor conditions if provided with the right information.

Thank you for your co-operation

Patient Group

Very soon the practice will be setting up a group of patients who will occasionally be asked questions about the services the practice provides.  If you are interested in being part of this group please click on the words/icon Patient Group where more information is available

The practice has now extended the range of contraception services we provide including fitting of coils and contraceptive implants (Nexplanon) by Dr Tanya Roy.  If you are interested in having a coil or contraceptive implant fitted please make an appointment with one of the Practice Nurses or Nurse Practitioners to discuss this, she we will then make an appointment with Dr Roy who will fit the coil or contraceptive implant.

From April 2015 the Government has extended the Named GP scheme to all patients. This is something that the practice already operates as each patient is registered with an individual doctor. This does not mean that you have to see that doctor or that you cannot see anyone else in the practice – as always you can ask to see any specific clinician if that is important to you and they are able to manage the issue in question. It does mean that there is an individual who takes an overview of the services being provided to patients registered with them to ensure that we are offering relevant and suitable care.

If you would like to know who your Named GP is you can find out in a number of ways:

  • Check the right hand side of prescriptions: we have configured the system to print your Named GP here from now on
  • Ask any clinician within the practice when you next attend
  • Contact the practice in any of the usual ways if you need to know and do not have a forthcoming visit (please do not make appointments just to ask this question)

If you would prefer to have a different Named GP than the one you are currently allocated we will do our best to accommodate this. Please make such a request in writing to the Practice Manager.
