Contraception

The practice has now extended the range of contraception services we provide including fitting of coils and contraceptive implants (Nexplanon) by Dr Tanya Roy. If you are interested in having a coil or contraceptive implant fitted please make an appointment with one of the Practice Nurses or Nurse Practitioners to discuss this, she we will then make an appointment with Dr Roy who will fit the coil or contraceptive implant.

Outbreak of Salmonella Newport

Whooping cough cases increase

Nurse Practitioners are nurses with experience in primary care, who have undertaken further training in:- Pharmacology Clinical examination Human health and disease Oonagh, Angela and Helen can see any patient who chooses to see her for any reason or condition. They have particular knowledge in:- Women's health, ie smears, contraception, menopause Heart disease High blood pressure Respiratory care, breathing problems Diabetes management Stroke management Mental Health They have been trained to carry out examinations, instigate tests and act as necessary. If Wendy, Angela or Helen cannot deal with your problem they will refer you to, or discuss your problem with the GP with your consent

Nurses

Mandy Kelly
Practice Nurse - RGN, Extended and Supplementary Nurse Prescriber Mandy follows up patients with diabetes, respiratory problems such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Ischaemic heart disease and high blood pressure. She is also available for advice regarding women's health problems such as hormone replacement therapy, pre-conceptual counselling, contraception advice and cervical smears. In addition she is able to offer travel advice and vaccinations.

Victoria Gunn
Practice Nurse - RGN
Victoria follows up patients with chronic problems such as ischaemic heart disease and high blood pressure. She is also available for advice regarding women’s health problems such as hormone replacement therapy, pre-conceptual counseling, contraception advice and cervical smears. She performs routine health checks on new patients and elderly patients and is willing to discuss health related issues such as giving up smoking or trying to lose weight.

Practice Management

Mrs Kathryn Corner
Practice Manager - AMSPAR Diploma in Practice Management
Our practice manager is responsible for all administration and personnel aspects of the practice. Mrs Corner will be only too willing to help you with any administrative or non-medical aspects of your health and treatment. She is also available, by appointment, to discuss any suggestions which may improve our service to you.

Rachel
Rachel is employed to assist the Practice manager, helping her to oversee the smooth running of the practice. In addition she deals with most of the correspondence between the practice and outside agencies such as hospital outpatient departments, private consultants, solicitors and insurance companies.

Administration

Karen and Tracy are responsible for maintaining and updating the special clinic registers and recall systems we have in place. Like Rachel they deal with most of the correspondence the practice receives from outside agencies particularly from hospital outpatient departments and private consultants.

Reception

In addition to their normal reception duties Senior Receptionists Stephanie and Barbara oversee the smooth running of the reception area and are responsible for training and supporting the rest of the reception team.

Our team is there to help you and are pleased to do so. The receptionists are your link with the rest of the practice. They may need to ask you medical details in order to work effectively and at all times are working under instructions of the doctors. All information given to them is treated in confidence and they are bound by the same codes of conduct as the doctors and nurses. The more information you are able to give them the better they will be able to assist you.

At the request of GPs, Health Visitors, Hospitals, Social Services, the Hospice, and the District Nursing Team visits clients who are house bound or unable to attend the Treatment Room at Cleveleys Health Centre.

The team assesses the nursing needs of clients in their own homes and these are some of the areas of care we are responsible for providing:-

Care of the terminally ill.
The Management of clients with epidurals, syringe drivers and Hickman lines.
Post-operative care following discharge from hospital including the management of dressings, wound care and the removal of sutures and clips.
Pressure care and advice.
The management of patients with leg ulcers.
Taking blood samples.

As part of the service provided to all our patients with Diabetes the District Nursing Team offers advice and educational support to those clients who are unable to attend the Diabetic Clinic. This includes teaching clients how to administer their own insulin.

Administering prescribed medication by injection.
Ear syringing if clients are unable to attend the Ear Clinic held in the Treatment Room.
Teaching the administering of eye drops if client unable to do their own.
Influenza Vaccinations either as part of a clinic held at the Crescent Surgery or in the clients home.
All clients over the age of 75 will be invited to attend the surgery for a health assessment, which may be conducted by a member of the District NursingTeam. If clients are unable to attend the surgey then a visit to the clients home can be arranged.
Incontinence assessment including catheter care, bowel care and advice.
Health promotion support and advice.
Teaching and supervision of all aspects of care to clients and their relatives/carers.
Health needs assessment at the request of the GP or Social Services in clients own home, rest home and nursing home.
Referrals to Social Services, Chiropody and Occupational Therapy or other relevant health professionals.
Bereavement Counselling.

The health visitors are closely involved in the health care of patients, particulary children, expectant mothers and children with special needs. The team may be contacted at the health centre on 01253 864122.

The health visitors run a baby clinic on Monday mornings between 9.30 and 11.30am. A doctor is in attendance at these clinics twice a month. A children’s immunisation clinic is held on Tuesday from 9.30am to 12.15pm

Counsellors

The Mental Health Helpline can be the first port of call for anyone who is concerned about their own mental health or that of a friend or relative. It is a FREEPHONE, CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION and LISTENING service and the number will not appear on the telephone bill.
